LightShot: Quick and Easy Print-Screen Tool

The process of manually copying and cropping images can be a little long-winded. Let’s go through the steps:

  • Press Print Screen to create screenshot of current screen display
  • Open up your favourite graphics software package
  • Wait for software package to load
  • Create a new document
  • Paste in the screenshot
  • Crop the screenshot
  • Resize (if required)
  • Annotate (if required)
  • Save as .JPG or .PNG

This might not seem too bad, but if you are having to source images from a client’s website, any form of speeding up this process can end up saving you a fair amount of time.

LightShot is a 3rd party program that makes copying, cropping and annotating images a quick and painless task. Once installed, you assign a hot-key (default is set to Prt-Scr) and from then on, when you press your hot-key, LightShot appears. LightShot overlays your current screen and your cursor becomes the selection tool. Then you click and drag to select your desired area. Once selected you can add annotations (or not!) and then save to your desired directory.
