D-U-N-S Numbers In Relation To Apple Developer Accounts

What is a D-U-N-S Number?

A D-U-N-S number, or the Data Universal Numbering System, is a proprietary system developed and regulated by Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) that assigns a unique numeric identifier, referred to as a "DUNS number" to a single business entity. This business entity identification is key to creating an Organisation Developer account as it's one of the pieces of evidence Apple require so your client can register as an Organisation to make publishing to iOS quicker and easier.

There is no charge to get a DUNS number, and the time to create the number is 24 to 48 hours. https://www.dnbnumber.com When obtaining a DUNS number online, the wait is usually 30 business days, but the assignment of a number can be immediate for UK businesses who provide their company registration number.

Most of your client business' will already have a DUNS number if they are a registered company and this can be found using the DUNS Lookup Tool - https://www.dnb.co.uk/duns-number/lookup.html (UK link, for other countries Google DUNS lookup and the name of your country)

Don't worry if you can't get a DUNS number or if your client is a Sole Trader, we can still publish to Individual Developer accounts.

You can find Apple's Support Article of 2FA here - https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204915

You can find more information about this on this Academy Post.

When your client creates an Apple Developer account there are 2 options available to them:

  • Individual Developer Account
  • Organisation Developer Account

If your client is a registered Ltd / PLC/ LLC company then they will be able to create an Organisation Developer Account. They will require a DUNS number to complete the enrolment. More information on DUNS can be found here - https://developer.apple.com/support/D-U-N-S/

With an Organisation Developer  Account  your client may add Eazi-Apps Support as a Team Member, with the role of "Admin". Admin access will allow us to enter your client's account and submit the app without triggering the 2FA verification process.

You will need to invite support@eazi-apps.co.uk as an "Admin" to their account in two places:

  • App Store Connect
  • Apple Developer website

Please see the two resources below for instructions on how to add an "Admin":
App Store Connect - Adding Team Members

If your client does not have a registered company and is a Sole Trader, they will not be able to enrol as an Organisation - they will need to create an Individual Developer Account.
