Create New Apple ID

Any organisation that is publishing an iOS app will require th following:

• An Apple ID
• An Apple Developer Account

This section will cover how to create an Apple ID.

If your customer already has an iPhone they will have already created an Apple ID. They would use this ID to set up their iPhone or iPad and they can use this ID to sign in to any iOS device. They can also share their Apple ID with their family.

We recommend that your customer sets up a brand new Apple ID for the purposes of publishing their mobile app. The reason for this is that:

• This ID may have to be shared with you, the licensee, or our internal publishing team. 
• If they use their personal ID and don’t set up a brand new ID, you or our internal publishing team would have access to their personal content. 

Naturally, your customer may not be comfortable with this hence why we recommend that they set up a brand new Apple ID specifically for publishing their mobile app.

To set up an Apple ID, your client will have to visit https://appleid.apple.com.

The process is very simple. All you have to do is click on ‘Create Your Apple ID’ and follow the on-screen instructions.

App-Specific Password

In order to publish your app on the Apple Store (with an Individual Developer Account, ignore this article if your client has an Organisation Account) you will be required to generate an app-specific password. This article explains how to generate the app-specific password which you will have to provide during the publishing process. 

1.     Navigate to appleid.apple.com from your web browser and sign in with your Apple ID and Password.

2.     Verify your identity with two-factor authentication.

3.     Under the Security section, select Generate Passwords.

If you don't see the option to generate app-specific passwords, you'll need to enable two-factor authentication, which is different than two-step verification.

4.     Enter a label for the password. Be sure the name relates to the app for which you are generating the password, like "Outlook" or "Thunderbird."

5.     Select Create.

6.     Copy the app-specific password you generated.

7.     Launch the app for which you need the app-specific password.

8.     Paste the app-specific password into the password field that is asking for your iCloud password.

How to view a list of your app-specific passwords

Apple lets you store up to 25 active app-specific passwords at one time. You can view a list of passwords you've generated for apps to ensure you still need them. You won't be able to see the actual password, but you can view the label you entered and the date it was created.

1.     Navigate to appleid.apple.com from your web browser and sign in with your Apple ID and Password.

2.     Verify your identity with two-factor authentication.

3.     Under the Security section, select Edit.

4.     Under the App-Specific Passwords section, select View History.

You'll be able to see the label for every app-specific password you've created. Take a look at the list to make sure you're still using iCloud with those third-party apps.
